I have never actually had a Monte Cristo Sandwich, however I did know how they were made. My grilled sandwich recipe has a bit of a twist to it, with ooey gooey melted cheese with the French Toasted bread to top it, taking a grilled cheese sandwich to a whole new level.

SERVES 2
4 slices bread
3 eggs
1-2 T. Heavy Cream
2 dashes Garlic Powder
1 cup grated cheese
Mustard (for drizzling and dipping)
Powdered Sugar (dusting)
1/2 T. butter for skillet
Beat the eggs, cream and garlic powder together. Grate the cheese. Dredge one side only of the bread. Brown in a buttered cast iron skillet. Top with cheese and a drizzle of mustard. Repeat with each slice of bread and place the second slice over the cheese slice when browned. The second slice can be browned on both sides if desired.
NOTE: Dust the sandwich with a light dusting of powdered sugar if desired or a dusting of grated Parmesan cheese. Serve with a side dish of dipping mustard if desired.
NOTE: You can add thin sliced deli meats if desired.
