If you would rather make your Frappe or other iced coffee beverages without a mix, refer to the link below for making your own Cold brew without the need for special equipment.
Yield: This makes just under a quart of mixture. I divide it among 6-8 oz. decorative jars for gift giving.
What you Need:
Mason Jars with lids (for storing)
Jar Funnel (optional)
Mini Blender (optional)
Decorative Jars (for gift giving)
Decorative labels, ribbons, raffia, and/or burlap and lace for gifting
Ingredients
⦁ 1/4 c instant Espresso powder (adjust to taste)
⦁ 3/4 cup Coconut Palm Sugar (to taste or other dry sweetener)
⦁ 1 cup non-fat dry whey powder (or dry milk powder)
⦁ 1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
⦁ 1/3 cup baking cocoa (adjust to taste)
⦁ Pinch salt (I used pink Himalayan Sea Salt) Optional
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together well, either place all in a jar and shake, or use the mini blender OR coffee grinder to fully incorporate all ingredients to a fine powder consistency. Pour into clean, sterilized jars and tighten the lids. Label, with date and recipe for later use. Store in a cool, dark cupboard or pantry. Keeps up to one year.
NOTE: Adjust the espresso powder to taste- you can use a quality instant coffee for a milder flavored mixture if desired or if it's more convenient.
NOTE: Adjust the sweetener to taste
Tip: For a Vanilla Flavor, add 1/2 split Vanilla bean and process along with the dry ingredients.
TO USE:
Per 8 oz. Cup or Mug
6-8 Coffee ice cubes (or plain ice cubes)* (see note below)
1/4-1/3 cup mix (adjust to taste)
1/2 cup water OR 1/2 C. Half and Half (or non dairy milk substitute)
Place ice cubes in a blender or food processor. Pulse or use the crushed ice setting, until the ice resembles shaved ice cones. Add the mix and water until thoroughly blended. Pour into a cup or mug. Then add milk if desired, to top it off.
Serving Suggestion: Serve with whipped cream, and shaved chocolate and a straw if desired. OR add a scoop of ice cream, and a straw.
NOTE: Since powdered dry dairy has been added to the mix, it's optional whether you use water to reconstitute the mix or fresh dairy. For richer flavor, add the fresh dairy.
Note: The next time you brew hot or cold brew coffee, use the left over to pour into ice cube trays and freeze, to prevent your iced coffee drinks from diluting.
FOR GIFTING: Pour into decorative jars, using the jar funnel, or scoop into the jars with a spoon. Fasten the lids securely. Add a decorative label and recipe for use. Decorate with ribbon, raffia, burlap or lace.
