In 30-35 minutes you will have a dreamy, moist Orange Dreamsicle cake without extra bowls to clean. This has orangy flavor and really doesn't even need the glaze or frosting, it's so moist and light.
6 oz. 7 up
6 oz. Orange Juice (with pulp or without)
1 White Cake Mix (any brand, but I used the pudding-type cake mix)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees or as directed on the cake mix you use. Mix 6 oz. 7 up with 6 oz. Orange juice. Grease a 12" cast iron skillet liberally with butter on the bottom and sides. Pour the cake mix into the skillet, then pour the Orange juice mixture evenly over the dry mix. Give the mix a few swirls with a hand whisk. Place in the oven and bake 30-35 minutes until the sides start to pull away and an toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool 10 minutes before tipping out onto a plate or rack. Top with your favorite frosting or try my Orange dreamsicle glaze below.
Note: This will fit in a 9 X 13" cake pan. If using any other size pan than a skillet, follow the baking instructions on the package for that size pan.
ORANGE DREAMSICLE GLAZE
Chicken Coop Chatter©
1/2 Cup Powdered sugar
1 T. Cream
1 T. Orange juice
Mix ingredients together, adding cream or Orange juice by teaspoon until thin enough to drizzle on the cake. If you would rather have frosting, use 1 Cup Powdered sugar, and enough cream and Orange juice to make the frosting the consistency you prefer.
Serve warm or cold and for a special treat how about Orange Sherbet to top it off?
