BUFF ORPINGTON : Orpingtons are a large breed, that grows rapidly and produces a large amount of large eggs annually. This Heritage breed is in recovery status with the American livestock conservancy and is ideal for the backyard or the barnyard. Roosters reach 9-10 pounds, and the hens will reach 7.5 pounds at maturity. The soft, fluffy feathering makes them winter hardy and typically produce eggs through winter months when other hens may either slow down or stop laying. The original Orpington colors are black, white, buff and blue. We currently have the buff and the rare lavender (self-blue), though it is possible to get lavender splits, meaning the offspring could be black, splash or lavender. Our Lavenders are all lavender and have lavender legs. Again, due to the blue genetics that the lavender derives from, breeding the two lavender could produce some splash, or black offspring. (We have not had that experience, however it is possible for a *sport* to be produced)
PLEASE NOTE: WE NO LONGER HAVE BUFF ORPINGTON AVAILABLE. HOWEVER THE INFORMATION ON THE BREED IS STILL USEFUL FOR THOSE CONSIDERING THIS BREED AND WILL REMAIN ON THE SITE.
