RED SAGITTA: The Sagitta is a new hybrid. Resembling a New Hampshire Red, but grows rapidly and the cockerel's weigh 5.5 pounds by 12 weeks, making them an ideal table bird. The pullets begin laying large to X-large eggs by 17 weeks, as much as a month before many other breeds.
Our Sagitta breed true. We have hatched hundreds of them and they consistently breed true, unlike some other well known hybrids. These are not to be confused with sex-links, they are not sex-links and you cannot tell at hatch which is boy or girl. It has come to our attention that some people seem to be under the misconception that a hybrid is a genetically modified species. This is absolutely incorrect. A hybrid is two or more of the same species bred to produce a stronger, more vital product of that species. There is NO genetic altering. This would be no different than you or I having ancestors of various nationalities. Sometimes misinformation goes beyond reason, and without thinking or researching things become common belief when they are incorrect. Please research things you hear or read, and not just assume that what you read is absolute truth.
The Sagitta are very hardy,dual-purpose, family friendly and a good choice for the homestead, backyard or farmyard, they take well to free-range or confinement, and they do not have the growth issues or health issues of the Cornish X and their eating habits are the same as a Rhode Island Red or any other common chicken breed.
This is our primary meat bird, because of it's early maturity and robust body structure. They are also excellent egg layers. We have had some go broody and they have been excellent mothers. Everyone that has purchased the hatching eggs from us, has been amazed at the rapid growth, the friendliness and ease of handling.

NOTES FROM OUR CUSTOMERS:
Elizabeth C. FL
I'd feel perfectly safe getting eggs shipped at any distance, too. I ordered eggs from JFA, and they shipped fine to the Miami metro Florida area. Hatched well, too, considering we had an incredibly bad cold snap.
Dave & Betty M. WA.
Dave & Betty M. Purchased some Red Sagitta from us earlier this year and Dave has taken the time to record their egg production as well as the weight of the eggs, which has been as much as 80 grams (about 2.82 ounces), and what appears to be an average of about 75 grams from the first of November to the 10th of December. (The weight of an average extra large egg is between 62 and 69 grams). Those gals are earning their keep. Thanks Dave & Betty for sharing the information. And one further note, those gals have been laying through some fairly bitter weather. We have nothing but good things to say about the Sagitta and Dave is very pleased and impressed with their performance.
