SALMON FAVEROLLES: The Salmon Faverolles are the most common of the breed. However there are several colors, including black Faverolles. This is a French Breed, known as an "auto-sexing" breed, in that the boys and girls look entirely different at hatch and fully grown (This is debatable except to the most discerning eye, but there is a difference as the new feathers grow in). Faverolles are a favorite, because of their friendly, docile demeanor. They get along with other chickens, however are known to be bullied by other more dominant breeds. We have both the light and dark feathered hens in our flock. They are a good dual purpose bird, and the hens are good layers of a medium to large cream to light brown egg. This breed has a fifth toe and feathered legs. They have muff/beard, which is as cute in the chicks as in the adults. The roosters are very pretty birds, weighing around 8 pounds and mature fairly early compared to other breeds and make fine broilers and fryers and were originally introduced for the meat quality. The faverolles are winter hardy. I love the look of the ladies and to me appear as though they are dressed for winter with their fine feathered capes, feathered boots and muffs. The faverolles are on the threatened list of the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy
