Just Fowling Around has been making our list and checking it twice for our own wish lists and for our chicken friends. We thought it would be fun to share some of the unique things we located online that you also may enjoy or want on your own wish lists as we approach the countdown to Christmas. These items also make great year round gifts for the chicken lovers in your life. Please find the links at the bottom for those items of interest.
One thing we think is very important to all chicken keepers is protection from predators, and an affordable way of alerting us that predators are in the area. Nite Guard® is one alerting system that is solar powered and does the job with great reviews.
We love the egg gathering baskets and they can be used as a frame for your own living display. So be sure to order plenty for gift projects as well. Refer to my tutorial for making your own Hen n' Chicks living display with an egg basket. http://justfowlingaround.weebly.com/earth-friendly-projects/category/hens-n-chicks-chicken-basket
*Got Chickens?* is a cute decal to let everyone know you are a proud chicken owner. Place this in your car window, on your laptop or motorcycle, or even on your front window for visitors to see.
Everyone can use another T-shirt, and why not one that lets everyone know you love your chickens?
What about our very own Just Fowling Around Egg Gathering Apron? These are great not just for gathering eggs, but perfect for the Gourmet Chef in your household. Bro loves the deep pockets in this apron to hold not only eggs, but his notebook and writing tools and camera while he's out tending the birds.

Chicken signs are a fun display indoors or out, on the Chicken coop or wherever you please.
Let's not forget our feathered friends this holiday season. Something to keep them active and warm through these cold days and weeks ahead. A clever bordom buster.
For those of you interested in hatching your own chicks this spring, or in the future, This is one of the best buys we've found for an incubator with a 48 egg capacity and automatic turner, with digital gauges. These always sell out fast, so if an incubator is on your list, it is wise to order early.
If you're just thinking about raising a few chickens or other fowl, or have the need to add another coop, this is a Deluxe style coop that is affordable. Not all of us have the skills or materials to build our own coop, so we are always on the look out for quality inexpensive coops to share with you.
For decorative yard enhancement, this 40" windmill is ideal for the chicken enthusiasts. Since most of us do not have the space for full sized windmill, this is one we can enjoy to grace our chicken yard.
Every winter, no matter how prepared, we run into the problem of freezing waterers. We've looked long and hard at options to keep our chickens supplied with fresh, free flowing water and this hose definitely makes the winter water issue easier for us. If you have a lot of chickens, it's not cost effect to have heated waterers, but with heated hoses, it's likely more economical if you have other livestock as well.
A couple of ideas for stocking stuffers are an egg candler and mouse pad for chicken lovers. The candler has a bright LED light to make it easier to see the development and movement of the chicks. Candling the eggs is not an exact science, but using one is a fun and educational tool as children await chicks to hatch. Remember colored eggs and dark brown eggs are very difficult to candle.
Who doesn't need a chicken family mouse pad? We know many are now using their cell phones as their internet connection, but we here at JFA still use our computers as our primary connection and no doubt many others do as well.
Bro and I both have a set of the mugs linked below. We were both very pleased with the quality. They are very well made and fit into most modern kitchen settings. The 16 oz. capacity is a nice size for hot chocolate or coffee drinkers alike.
I have a set of the rooster measuring spoons. Quality through and through. You'll see these in many of my recipe posts on our website.
I love using placemats, I not only use them on the dining and breakfast table, but I also use them on end tables to set a coffee mug on or a lamp that may scratch the surface of furniture. Many of my photos are seen with the use of placemats.
I use my ceramic chicken bowls for all kinds of recipes, dips and serving bowls. This set of 3 are just the right size for the average family or moderate servings. Personally I would not use them in a microwave or dishwasher, but hand washing and using with hot foods is fine. You'll see these in several of my recipe posts, I used them for making all kinds of great recipes.
A gift card is always useful when you have no idea what to purchase for an individual on your list. There are so many items to select from on Amazon, that without doubt your gift card will be used for something your recipient has been wanting. Books, Tools, Household Goods, Farm and Pet supplies, Clothing and Boots as well as all kinds of Electronics.
There's even a free application available for chicken coop plans for those of you with Android devices.
If you have a Tractor Supply in your area, see the link below for a variety of gift suggestions.
We have compiled a list of books and magazine publications that we recommend and have been suggested by many of our followers. Books and magazines always make great gift items year round. One book we highly recommend is Merck Veterinary Manual. It covers fowl and other livestock as well as domestic dogs and cats. This publication is tried and true and a comprehensive guide to troubleshooting health issues in the poultry flocks.
