Chicken Coop Chatter©
A little 1" chicken wire or 1/4-1/2" hardware cloth, a permanent marker, wire cutter and mason jar is all you need to make your own Floral Frog. These *frogs* are available for purchase at $2.00 and up each, but why not make your own with supplies you probably already have on hand, and costing mere pennies for as many as you want to make or need?
Supplies Needed:
Chicken wire or Hardware cloth
good sharp wire cutters
Mason Jar or Vase
Instructions
Lay your wire out as flat as you can. Using your jar top or lid for a pattern, mark around the edge with a permanent marker. With wire cutters, cut a square, then round off the corners, if you want one that will fit under a jar lid when it is fastened down. For one you can crimp to fit within the mason jar, simply cut the square and insert within the rim of the jar.
BOUQUET
For a simple bouquet, cut your flowers of choice. Shake to remove any critters. Remove all the leaves that will be in the water. Fill the jar half way with water and a little bleach. Poke the tallest flowers and foliage into the flower frog to secure. Continue inserting flowers from long to short, finishing with the short ones around the edges. The flower frog will hold the foliage and flowers in place as you add more to your bouquet. Stand back, view the bouquet for symmetry, adding more flowers as needed.
TIPS: When the flowers are spent, don't toss them out, dry the flower petals to use in potpourri or for decorating gift cards and packages. If any petals fall from the fresh flowers, just reserve them for drying.
To dry the petals, lay out on a screen or parchment paper and allow to air dry.
I have a gallon jar, reserved for dried petals. When the flower petals are dry, I just toss into the jar for colorful potpourri to use in decorative dishes, vases or for gift giving.
