This chicken feeder lamp is beautiful at Christmas and can be adapted for any season. The lights set the mood for quiet evenings. It’s easy to assemble and the materials are inexpensive. They can be as simple or as elaborate as your skills and time allow.
Here’s what you need:
• Vintage Mason jar or regular-mouth Mason jar,
• Metal feeder or water base to fit regular mouth Mason Jar (available farm stores),
• Seasonal decorations (home collected or purchased),
• Battery operated Christmas lights or plug-in Christmas lights,
• Small decorative Christmas balls (colors of choice),
• Ribbon, and a
• Hot glue gun and glue.
Here’s what to do:
1. Decorate the base of the feeder and jar with seasonal florals and greens, securing with hot glue.
2. Begin coiling the non-plug end of the string of lights in the bottom of the jar holding the rest of the string out of the jar. Pour some of the Christmas balls into the jar about 1/4 of the way, coil more of the light string, holding the rest of the string outside the jar.
3. Add more balls, about to the 1/2-way mark, lay more of the light string inside the jar, add another 1/4 layer of the lights and Christmas balls, then add lights and finish with the Christmas balls. If using a plug-in light string, run the cord out through one hole of the feeder base and conceal with greenery or florals, place the feeder base on the jar and turn right side up.
4. Plug in the lights. If using battery operated lights, run the cord through a hole of the feeder base to have access to the switch.
5. Conceal with ribbon, florals or greenery.
