Relaxing Lavender Honey Bath Melts (suitable for all skin types)
Yield: 8 small bath melts
Ingredients:
2 oz. or about 1/4 C. Coconut Butter* (not Oil)
2 oz. or about 1/4 C. Cocoa Butter
1/2 teaspoon Colloidal Oatmeal*
1/2 teaspoon RAW-Pure Honey*
1 teaspoon lavender buds (you can find online, at your local craft store or dry your own to use*)
20- 25 drops Lavender essential Oils (or your favorite essential oils or combination)
Silicon molds (lots of shapes available)
Decorative Container
Mesh bath bags (optional)
Directions:
Measure or weigh out the butters. Place in an 8 oz. mason jar. Fill a small slow cooker with water to reach 1/2 to 3/4 up the outside of the jar. Place the jar in the water and turn the slow cooker to low setting or warm. Melt the butters, (do not boil) stir as they melt, using a popsicle stick or wooden spoon (optional). Add the colloidal oatmeal, honey and lavender buds to the melted butter mixture. Stir well to combine. Allow to cool slightly , then stir in the essential oils. Pour into the molds, and sprinkle with a few lavender buds and/or colloidal oatmeal, then place in the refrigerator or freezer to harden (about 20-30 minutes depending on the size of molds used). Pop out of the molds and place in decorative jars or other containers. Keep cool to prevent premature melting.
To Use: Fill the tub with comfortably hot water. Drop 1 or 2 of the bath melts into the warm water. Lay back, relax and enjoy. You can place bath melts into mesh bags and hang over the tap if preferred.
Tip: If you prefer another type butter, you can substitute Shea Butter for either the cocoa butter or the coconut butter.
Tip: If you live in an especially warm climate, or keep the house warm, you may want to keep the bath melts in a cool cupboard or refrigerate to prevent premature melting.
For Gifting: Place in a decorative jar or container. Add a label with instructions for use and decorate with ribbons, lace, raffia or burlap if desired.
NOTE: Use Pure Raw Honey. There should be nothing on the label except 100% Pure Raw Honey. So read the labels, not all honey is pure. You can use pasteurized honey, but regardless make sure it only says honey on the label. Pure honey is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-viral, not to mention great for silky, smooth skin.
Note: Though Coconut oil may work in this recipe, I used Coconut Butter, not oil. You can make your own Coconut Butter in the food processor. Place unsweetened coconut flakes in the processor and run until the coconut is of thick butter consistency (pulsing and running and scraping down the sides, works best). If you have a high speed blender it may work, but most blenders heat up too much for the length of time it takes to reduce the coconut to butter consistency. You can try pulsing, running, pulsing to prevent overload on the motor, but be aware it can damage your blender.
Note: Colloidal Oatmeal has known benefits for Acne, eczema, Rosacea and other dermatological issues. If you check labels on popular skin and body products, many are using the colloidal oatmeal for added benefits. It is beneficial for dry skin and will leave a silky smooth texture to the skin. Though it is not a cure, it can help alleviate itching, inflammation and skin issues. There is a lot of scientific study and data available online to see if it can aid in your own skin issues. You can easily make your own as you'll see below at the link. You can use the colloidal Oatmeal for all your beauty and bath products, and it takes only a matter of minutes to make your own.
Lavender is known to help relax and treat stress, anxiety and depression, so this is one you may want to grow, for all of the benefits of well-being.
