| Eieren Haven Have you heard of Egg Harbor Township in New Jersey? The first inhabitants were Native Americans that set up their summer camps to harvest fish, shellfish, wild fruits and berries along with the abundant shorebird and waterfowl eggs. The name dates back to 1614 when Dutch explorer Cornelius Mey arrived at the inlet to a river, that is now called Great Egg Harbor River. The grassy meadows were home to so many birds that they were covered with eggs, so he called it Eieren Haven, which translated means *Egg Harbor*.
