Yield: Enough to frost a snack cake (8 X 8")
Ingredients
1/2 c. butter
2-3 c. powdered sugar (sifted)
1-1/2 tsp. maple extract (or to taste)
3 T. Cream (plus or minus)
Directions
For frosting, heat butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until it begins to bubble around the edges. Stirring constantly. Let the butter turn a delicate brown (watch it, this can go from a nice brown to scorched rapidly), and remove from heat immediately.
Add powdered sugar, extract and cream. Whisk together until smooth (it should be a little thinner than frosting, but not as thin as a glaze. Add more powdered sugar if you want thicker frosting consistency, or more cream if you want thinner).
Using a spatula, spread the brown butter frosting over the warm bars (the frosting will be easier to spread while the bars and frosting are still warm).
Note: If you are not a fan of maple, you can use Vanilla or other flavor extracts.
