What you Need:
A large jar of Maraschino Cherries or other whole fruit (strained, reserve the juice)
Brandy, Vodka, Rum, Bourbon (your choice)
Decorative jars (4 oz, 6 oz. 8 oz, your choice) With lids
Strain the juice from the cherries. Fill the jars to within 1/2 inch of the top of the jar. Pour the liquor over the cherries. With a thin kitchen knife, run it between the glass and the cherries to remove air bubbles. fill the remainder of the jar to cover the cherries, leaving at least 1/4" head room. Tighten the lids and label with the date and liquor used (important if you are using different liquor per jar). Allow to infuse 6-8 weeks. Rotate the jars top to bottom every few days to make sure all are infused with the liquor.
Note: You can make this in quart jars to infuse, then before gift giving, ladle into smaller gift-sized jars.
For Gift Giving: Decorate the jars with ribbons and tags and a creative way to use the cherries, either as garnish for an adult drink or in a special dessert.
Suggestion: Use the reserved juice for making simple syrup for Lemonade or special fruity beverages. To make fruit-flavored simple syrup, refer to the link: http://justfowlingaround.weebly.com/sweets-treats-and-drinks/simple-syrup-and-variations
In addition the juice can be made into a thicker syrup to pour over ice cream or your favorite dessert.
