Cover your work area with paper. Position the switch or plug plate on the backside of chosen fabric. If there is a pattern, position so the pattern fits properly on the plate. Mark the fabric around the edge of the plate. Cut the fabric a 1/2 inch wider than the mark on the fabric all around.
Spray the top of the plate with the Spray adhesive in a WELL-ventilated area. Place the backside of fabric to the top side of the plate, smoothing the fabric over the plate in proper position. Cut an X in the holes of the light switch or plug plate.
Clip the corners and fold over. With the heated glue gun, carefully run a bead of glue around the back edges of the plate and press the fabric down firmly. Repeat for the cut edges around the plate switch holes to secure the fabric. Allow the adhesive to dry. Carefully punch holes where the screws will be placed. Install the switch or plug plate wherever you wish to display your decorative light or plug switch plate.
The switch plates can be as decorative as you would like. Hot glue burlap or lace edging to the back for a special country look to add appeal to your finished project. Select the fabric appropriate for the room you want to display your finished project.
NOTE: If you wish only to do one switch plate, you may be able to purchase remnant fabric suitable to your project.
Switch plates are inexpensive. The plain plastic ones work great for this project or cover the existing ones you have.
This is a quick and easy project that will add eye appeal to your kitchen, craft room or any room. If you make your own curtains, the fabric you used will work for the plate covers and bring your decor' together in a simple, yet appealing way.
