Serves 4-8
1 can Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls or Cinnabon bun (8 rolls)
1 apple, peeled, cored and quartered (8 pieces)
1/4 C white sugar
1/2 C. brown sugar
1/2 C. Apple Cider
1/2 C. butter (melted)
2 tsp. Maple extract
1 tsp. Apple Pie Spice
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Roll the cinnamon rolls flat, between two pieces of plastic wrap. brush melted butter on each cinnamon roll. Toss the apple quarters in a mixture of sugars and spice. Place an apple section in each cinnamon roll and fold over the edges, then seal. Mix the sugar and spice mixture with the extract and Cider. Place dumplings in a buttered Cast Iron skillet. Pour the sugar and cider mixture over and around the dumplings . Sprinkle with more sugar and spice if desired. Bake 25 minutes or until golden brown and the apples are tender.
Apple Cider Frosting
To thicken the Apple Cider sauce (left in the pan), add the frosting that comes with the package, whisk until thickened, but thin enough to drizzle.
Serving Suggestion: Drizzle Apple Cider Sauce over the dumplings while warm. Top with Ice Cream or Whipped cream with a sprinkle of Apple Pie Spice.
Tip: I place the sugars and spice in a sealable bag so there is no mess when coating, use the remaining sugar mixture for your sauce.
