An easy craft that you can make as fancy or as plain as you would like. Make for Christmas or Easter to display in a bowl or on a tree. Fabric choices are endless. These can be elegant for Easter, country patchwork or especially for Christmas. You can add dollops of glitter, or other adornments. They also make great gifts when displayed in a gift box. Spring or Christmas fabric, a little lace, ribbon, or burlap and jute all work well and display nicely.
Supplies Needed:
Eggs (either blown out egg shells, styrofoam, or wood)
Scrap Fabric (fabric stores usually have bins of remnants or precut quilt squares)
Ribbon
White Glue
Foam Brush
Scissors
Hot Glue
Toothpicks
Egg Carton
Directions:
Cut the fabric in small strips, squares or triangles. Poke a toothpick into the blown hole of fresh eggshells or into styrofoam. Using the brush, coat the egg part way with the white craft glue, place the prepared fabric squares on the glue. Randomly place the other fabric squares on the glue, overlapping onto the fabric that was previously placed. Continue to brush the glue on and add additional fabric scraps until the entire egg is covered. If the ends will not stay down, just brush a little glue on those ends and press down. If using blown out eggs or styrofoam eggs, poke the toothpick into an egg carton to hold the egg until dry. Add a ribbon loop or bow to one end of the egg using hot glue and hang on the Easter tree or Christmas tree or special display. These are also cute without the hanging loop to display in a clear glass bowl.
NOTE: Blow out the eggs, by poking a small hole at the pointed end and a little larger hole at the rounded end. With a toothpick, stir the egg yolk to make it easier to blow out the contents. Blow the egg into a bowl. Rinse out the egg with warm water, and allow to dry. Display as is, or decorate.
