Sun tea is the ultimate busy day, self-reliant beverage. It only requires water, tea bags, a container and the kiss of the sun. No stove required. I not only make sun tea during the summer months when the sun is bright, but I also make it during the winter on the kitchen countertop. The process of allowing the tea to steep without heating on the stove gives it a mild, non-bitter flavor that is common with many brands of tea that are steeped on the stove.
Ingredients
5 regular size tea bags (or 3 family size your flavor choice)
Hot tap water
1 Gallon container (Covered pitcher, Sun Tea Jar, or 1 gallon glass jar.)
Fill the container with hot tap water. Insert your flavor choice tea bags. Dunk the tea bags a few times to make sure they are saturated with the water. Set the container in a sunny spot. When the tea has reached the color you prefer, bring indoors, remove the tea bags, squeezing out the excess water into the container. Do not discard the tea bags, toss them in with your plants. Plants love the acid from tea.
Note: I use Orange Pekoe Tea, but the flavor choices do not have to be limited. Serve plain or sweetened. The tea may be sweetened with your favorite sweetener, or refer to my instructions for Blackberry Sun Tea, and Blackberry Lemonade Sun Tea at the following links.
