I have used cast iron for many years. Some of the skillets I have are over 100 years old that I inherited from my father. Our dad worked on his uncle's ranch, where he drove cattle and worked side by side with ranch hands. Often he was out on the range by himself and reliant on his own cooking, and cast iron was the cooking vessel of choice. I have added to my collection over the years and my skillets, griddles, sauce pans and dutch ovens are in near daily use, including used for camping. Even with modern cookware, nothing beats cast iron for even heat and for holding heat so everything cooks quicker and more evenly and clean up is easy if you use proper care methods for your cast iron.
